Boston Park captures Whirlaway

Ozone Park, NY (Sports Network) – Boston Park, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, led every step of the way Saturday in winning the $75,000 Whirlaway Stakes at Aqueduct Park.

Boston Park got an excellent start from the gate and quickly took the lead in the 1 1/16 mile race. Running close behind the leader were Grey Comet and Mustang Jock. Heading up the backstretch, Boston Park remained on the lead with Mustang Jock and Grey Comet alternating for second place.

Around the final turn Mustang Jock drew along side of Boston Park with Grey Comet and the favorite Torre and Zim gaining ground. At the top of the stretch Boston Park regained sole possession of the lead, leaving a tiring Mustang Jock. At the wire Boston Park was a length infront of a late running Grey Comet followed by Go Rockin’ Robin, Mustang Jock, Torre and Zim and Formidable Fox. The time for the event was 1:44 3/5.

Boston Park is owned by Overbrook Farms and trained by D. Wayne Lukas. The three-year-old was making his first start since finishing sixth in the Holy Bull Stakes last month at Gulfstream Park. In the Whirlaway, Boston Park was facing Grey Comet and Mustang Jock. the first two finishers in last month’s Count Fleet Stakes at Aqueduct. The win in the Whirlaway was worth $45,000. Boston Park has now won three of 11 starts for $124,712.

Boston Park returned $16.40, $7.00 and $4.60. Grey Comet paid $4.80 and $3.00, and Go Rockin’ Robin paid $4.50 for show.
